About Me
I started this website in 2006 when I thought I wanted to write and produce indie comedy video for a living. The intervening years have seen this site - and my interests - through many transmogrifications.

I needed a way to display my work, whatever it was I happened to be working on. So my life with web development began. I grew familiar with HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, Flash and more. Eventually, designing and building websites was my focus. Shortly after graduating McMaster's Communications Studies and Multimedia program, I found a job as a content developer at a successful IT company in Burlington, Ontario. There, my forte was web design and development, and I became the unnofficial webmaster. (I designed and built the company's current website). I stuck with them for a year-long stint that ended in November of 2011. When I left, I was told by the owners and managers that for me "the doors are always open."

I believe this departure was so friendly because, 1) I learn reasonably quickly and I'm dedicated to the tasks upon which I have myself set and, 2) I'm not bad at webdev. The problem is web development, as a focus, is not what I want for my career. My complaint is not simply for the constant sitting and frequent boredom. (These conditions are occasionally interrupted and offset by the shrieking pandemonium that leads up to a 'drop-dead go-live date'.) And it's not only that I started my last job mostly out of financial necessity, at a time when I had no time to entertain 'job shopping.' The main issue is I have other interests and skills to which I feel the need to dedicate a fair amount of time and effort to develop and consider as possible career options. Or - perhaps closer to the mark - career 'components.'

So I'm taking some time off to regroup and set my course: I'm peering inwardly at what I like doing, what I feel I'm good at, what I need to improve upon, and what I value most.

Freedom of speech is one thing I most highly value. It is a crucial component of a morally sound society; I might not agree with something you say, but I'll defend your right to say it. The protection of this right is of grave importance. I'd like to help safeguard freedom of speech and aid in the struggle against illusion. By the way: I'm a skeptic and secular humanist.

I like taking photographs for leisure. I like film and video. I'm a technophile. I've recently discovered Arduino, and tinkering with it has been a lot of fun. I love reading. The next couple of months are going to be a very busy time as I get things organized. I'm not sure where I'll end up, but I'm optimistic.
