Hail in Cardston
Posted on July 27, 2012, at 10:08 am

I’m in Cardston, Alberta, visiting in-laws. Yesterday Jess and I went to Waterton national park and decided to stay longer than planned. Good thing we did: Cardston was subject to a brief but destructive storm, with hail larger than the size of golf balls.

Update: These photos were picked up by a a few media outlets. The Edmonton Journal, The Calgary Herald, 94.1 CJOC, and CBC.

Hey everyone, I already replied to Terry via e-mail about this, so I’m posting this here in case anyone is interested: unfortunately I don’t have any shots of crops that got damaged and that sort of thing. What you see in this post is a good indication of the range of pictures I’ve got of this incident. But thanks for the interest anyway, I appreciate it!

I heard that cows, horses and birds died under the powerful force of these hail stones….. many cars trucks and motor homes were total write-offs!!!

I didn’t hear about the cows, horses, or birds, but I don’t doubt they could have been killed by that hail. And yes, many cars and trucks were rendered undrivable!

good to see that these podunks got a wake up call that their little town is not all sunshine and rainbows.

  • http://blairkelly.ca/ Blair Kelly

I had to look up the word “podunk.” When I was there it seemed a few people already had an idea their town isn’t all sunshine and rainbows (like my brother-in-law’s neighbour who was getting harassed because she had the audacity to say she thinks stores should be open on Sundays). As for those who do think the town is a blessed place – and there are certainly plenty of those, too – I’m not sure evidence is the sort of thing that bothers them much.
